Tips to Protect Yourself Against Identity Theft and Fraud - Never write down or show anyone your PIN (personal identification number) from debit cards. Use one hand to cover as you are putting in your PIN
- Report all missing or stolen credit/debit cards to your bank or credit card company
- Carry only the identification cards you need. Put your birth certificate and Social Insurance Card in a safe place
- Don’t answer any telephone or internet inquiries requesting personal information (where you bank, credit card numbers)
- There are scams where callers ask for the numbers on the back of your credit card. Never give these numbers out to those who phone and say they are from your bank. They should already know these numbers!
- Use one hand to cover the key pad as you are putting in your PIN number.

| Any aging adult may find themselves in vulnerable situations. Anyone can have their rights violated- man or woman, all income levels, all cultural backgrounds, well or unwell. 75% of people being mistreated are mistreated by family. Actions that violate a person’s rights: - Being physically hurt
- Being called names, yelled at, threatened, isolated or intimidated
- Being forced to engage in sexual activity
- Having property or money stolen, being forced to give or sell property, misusing power of attorney, being tricked into giving property or money
- Not being allowed to have visitors, friends or relationships
- Not being allowed to see necessary professionals (doctor, dentist, lawyer, banker)
