BOARD
OF DIRECTORS 2007 - 2008
SHIRLEY SAMUEL, President
Shirley and her husband came to Canada in 1975
from England. They lived in northern Manitoba until moving to St. Albert
in 1978, a place they felt had the type of community they were looking
for.
Shirley
managed Marlin Travel in St. Albert Centre for twenty years prior to
retirement. Although she had been in the travel business for
thirty-five
years, both in England and Canada, she considers the last twenty years in
St. Albert as being the most rewarding and feels privileged to have met
so many wonderful people.
Shirley spent
a number of years as a fund raising committee member the Youville Home.
She was involved in some very successful events, mostly fashion shows at
the Arden Theatre, that provided essential needs for Youville residents.
Prior to joining the Travel business in England, Shirley was in
the Nursing Profession. Personal problems made it necessary to
leave the profession that she loved to pursue other choices. Both
nursing and travel are people related jobs.
As a member of the board of directors of the St. Albert Senior Citizens' Club, Shirley hopes to be able to bring some of her past expertise to
help enrich the club and other seniors in St. Albert.

IRENE PARISH - Vice President
Irene,
her husband Don and their two children, Mark and Denise, moved to Edmonton
from Ottawa in 1978. They retired to Saltair (south of Ladysmith) on
Vancouver Island in 1989. Heart surgery brought her back in 2002 to
spend time with her children and grandchildren (Katlynne, Cody, Marina,
Kira and Gage).
Irene
has volunteered all her life, in recent years for hospital auxiliary
duties and as funding chairperson for Zone 1 of the BC Seniors Games.
Her
activities and interests are numerous and varied. They, of course, include
bridge and every sort of card game. They have covered painting, embroidery
and copper tooling. In the years 1959 to 1977, she also helped in the
pioneering of ceramics in Ontario. Then booking and calligraphy have
held pride of place.
Moving
to St. Albert gave her a deep regard and interest in the St. Albert
Senior Citizens Club, which has now changed the earlier thought
that she could never replace the atmosphere in the Chemainus Seniors
Centre (her home away from home for the thirteen years before).

FAY
GARRETT - Treasurer
Fay has
done volunteer work for the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Misericordia
Hospital and the Arden Theatre to name just a few. Her working years
included secretarial work primarily, as well as medical receptionist.
Fay became involved with the St. Albert Senior Citizens' Club
about 1997 when she enrolled in an aerobic class. That has now grown
into convening the Bazaar and the Willows Gift Shop and she enjoys the
challenge these duties present.
Fay has
been in St. Albert about six years and has three children and four grandchildren.

MARCIA SCAMMELL - Secretary
Marcia is a long time St. Albert resident, moving here from Winnipeg,
Manitoba in 1960. She graduated from the Volunteer Management
program of Grant McEwan college in 1987 and, for a time, held the
position of Coordinator of St. Albert's Festival of the Arts.
She joined the staff of the
St. Albert Senior Citizens' Club as
Volunteer Coordinator in 1992.

church choir and Senior Centre activities.

area in 1966. She was a stay-at-home mom for nine years and then
re-entered the workforce with Strathcona County Schools (now Elk Island

was in schools where she was responsible for financial/payroll/budget
functions. She also worked as Administrative Assistant in Human
Resources and Instructional Services.
Carole and her husband, Ken moved to St. Albert when they retired in
2004 and joined the St. Albert Senior Citizens’ Club. Carole is a

over 90 years of age. Family and home are an important focus.

LORNE SIM - Director
We
moved to St. Albert with our two sons in 1961 and purchased a home
in the Grandin area where Marion and I continue to reside.
I was employed by a major dairy and beverage equipment manufacturing
company as a sales representative for Western Canada for 32 years.
After retiring, I became a member of the St. Albert Senior Citizens’
Club and have been an active member since. I have enjoyed floor
curling, bridge, euchre, cribbage and have had a lesson or two of pool .
I've also enjoyed volunteering for some of the money raising and social
events for the club.
It is my hope and desire that the club will always be a place for one
and all to come and enjoy the goodwill and fellowship offered by
our club.
